A draft S-1 filing obtained by the Wall Street Journal has given the clearest look yet at Anthropic's finances ahead of a planned initial public offering that the company is reportedly pursuing at a valuation of $2 trillion. The filing shows a business growing extraordinarily fast and losing money at an even faster pace.

Revenue for the first half of 2026 reached $16.3 billion, up from $1.1 billion in the same period a year earlier, an increase of more than tenfold. That first-half total alone is already more than three times the $4.6 billion Anthropic brought in for all of 2025, underscoring how quickly demand for the company's AI products has accelerated over the past year.

The losses grew just as fast. Anthropic's net loss for the first half of 2026 reached $80 billion, up from $13 billion in the first half of 2025. Much of that gap traces to compute costs, which rose to $9 billion in the first half of 2026 from $2.3 billion a year earlier. The company has committed to roughly $750 billion in planned compute spending over the coming years, and has already signed $450 billion worth of cloud provider contracts, most of which are noncancellable.

The filing also discloses executive pay. Chief executive Dario Amodei and president Daniela Amodei, who are siblings and co-founded the company together, each had a base salary of $655,000 in 2025. Dario's total compensation for the year was valued at $18 million, while Daniela's came to $16.5 million.

Among the risk factors Anthropic disclosed is a customer base that remains limited relative to the scale of its spending, along with the acknowledgment that the capabilities of its own products could be misused by customers for hacking or extortion. Taken together, the numbers in the filing paint a company betting enormous and largely locked-in sums on continued growth, with a loss far exceeding revenue even as that revenue multiplies.
